FYE Overview
"The Office of the First-Year Experience offers a comprehensive array of programs and initiatives for both students and their primary support persons that begin before students arrive on campus and continue well beyond their first year. Specifically, the Office of the First-Year Experience sponsors the Navigating Rensselaer orientation program, Family Programs, Community Service and the Information and Personal Assistance Center (IPAC) along with many other programming initiatives for students and families."- FYE
Website Work
While taking on a work-study position at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, I have been working to develop a web presence for RPI's new Office of the First-Year Experience. I originally joined the Office of the First-Year Experience the Spring of 2001. The FYE office was a new department at RPI and needed to develop a web presence. I worked closely with Nicole Qualtieri to develop a plan for the site and over time developed a content rich portal for parents, first-year students, and accepted students.
Student Orientation
During the summer of 2001 I applied to be a Student Orientation Advisor. This was a truly rewarding experience as I had a great time and enjoyed interacting with the first-year students as they transitioned to life at RPI.
In the summer of 2002 I applied to be a Student Orientation Coordinator. As a coordinator I was responsible for organizing events, communicating with students/parents, and coordinating the SO Advisors. This experience tought me a lot about professionalism and communication.

Outcome
FYE is able to communicate effectively to students, and parents.
The web presence exceeds that of other top-tier universities.
